A new Houston Chronicle op-ed by Dr. Faith Fletcher and Dr. Kari White examines the delay in the release of the Texas state Maternal Mortality Report and the decision to omit comprehensive analysis of deaths from 2022-2023, the first two years after the state abortion ban.
The authors write, “Omitting this analysis is unethical. It denies the public critical information about why women are dying and, most importantly, what could have been done to prevent those deaths.”
The authors call for the state to fully review maternal deaths and reporting what they learn in order to identify systemic problems, improve care, and prevent future tragedies.
