Tony Ogburn, MD, received his BS and MD at the University of Florida and completed a residency in OB/GYN at the University of California-Irvine. Following residency, he practiced for six years with the Indian Health Service in Gallup, New Mexico where he served as Chief of Ob/Gyn and Surgical Services. He then joined the faculty at the University of New Mexico, where he served for 18 years in a variety of leadership roles including Residency Program Director, General OB/GYN Division Chief, Assistant Dean of Graduate Medical Education, and Chief Medical Officer at UNM-Sandoval Regional Medical Center. He then moved to South Texas where he served for eight years as Professor and Founding Chair of Ob/Gyn at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, a newer medical school in South Texas along the US-Mexico border. He joined the faculty at the University of Texas Health Sciences Center in San Antonio in February 2024 as Professor of Ob/Gyn.
He has served in a number of roles with the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists including NM Section Chair, District 8 Legislative Chair, member and Chair of the Committee on AI/AN Affairs, member of the Underserved Committee, and Chair of the Council on Residency Education in Ob/Gyn (CREOG). He is currently a member of the ACOG Program Committee. He served as an oral examiner for the American Board of Ob/Gyn and is a current member and Vice Chair of the ACGME Ob/Gyn Review Committee. He is a Founding Board member and former President of the Society of Academic Specialists in General Ob/Gyn. He is a Specialist in General OB/GYN with an emphasis in preventive services, complex family planning and improving access to care for underserved populations.
